What a week this has been!
I really cant remember the last time that Tottenham have featured in the media this much over the course of 7 days! It seems that every time i put Sky Sports News, BBC news or Sky News on there is some sort of Spurs coverage - and it doesn't stop there, the newspapers and their on-line versions have jumped on the 'We Love Spurs' bandwagon as well.
Ok so about 60 - 70% of this press attention has focused on Beckham training with us, i think SSN have had a correspondent on permanent standby outside Spurs Lodge every day since his arrival. Just in case something happens, like Beckham getting a blister or something...
I think it went a little unnoticed (especially with the SSN interviewer) but we were treated to some great comedy from 'Arry once again with regards to the Becks saga - see this linky for the video!
However there has been a lot of coverage in other areas as well, the future of the Olympic Stadium has been a massive issue and was the focus of my blog yesterday (incidentally that is the subject of my poll this week - see the left sidebar!). BBC London appear to have covered this on the news every day this week, especially since we have now confirmed that we would knock most of it down! I wont get into this issue too much as I said my piece yesterday.
Getting towards the weekend however we are starting to get coverage regarding football, obviously we face United at The Lane on Sunday and the press seem to have woken up to the fact that we are a football club again and are now switching their focus to the game. According to one guest on SSN this will be United's 'hardest game of the season' - when I hear that on the news it gets me all excited.
I'm still in this crazy dream world with Spurs at the moment, I'm not used to success as a Spurs fan, in my time supporting the club Iv'e seen us win the league cup twice. Yes that's better than a lot of clubs but its not anything to shout about In the grand scheme of things.
So when we get linked with winning the league it gets me all hot and flustered - but in a good way.
Van der Vaart is the latest player to come out and say we can win it, the latest news has him saying:
"At Spurs we all believe we can win the league. It's a long way, but I believe we can do it because we have such a good squad."
This is great to hear but what gets my juices flowing is that he has said he wants to stay here for the rest of his career.
‘’If I have the opportunity, I would stay here for the rest of my career.’’
See.
I found this picture of VdV playing table tennis with local kids on the Spurs Twitter page, its always great to see these events - not because of seeing the players getting involved in the community but always because of the kids facial expressions...lol go on have a look!
My personal favourite is the boy on the far right, he's definitely trying to get noticed!
