Twitter says we've signed Pienaar?

Yesterday brought with it our second signing of the transfer window, some would say it was our first considering very few people have heard of Bongani Khumalo. (In case you are one of those he scored against France while playing for South Africa in the World Cup).

Regardless Steven Pienaar is now a Spurs player after penning an apparent 4 and a half year deal, details are sketchy but it looks like we paid around £3 million for him. It goes to show where we have come to these days, as this was all confirmed by Pienaar via his Twitter feed before being confirmed by Spurs:

 Steven Pienaar

To end speculation I am going to Spurs. I've had brilliant years at Everton and it will always be a special place in my heart.

He then confirmed that he will wear shirt number 40. I've never really been much of a Twitter follower however I started an account for this blog and have since come to realise how useful it can be - especially in these situations as it gives a further insight into goings on and the players themselves.

Over the last 3 hours for example Pienaar has 'tweeted' a few times regarding the transfer - apparently he is coming to London tomorrow to sort out his work permit. Check out his profile using the link above, its worth a look!

Now I'm sure he will be a great addition to the squad and Harry has already said that he could feature against Newcastle at the weekend (depending on the work permit) however you do have to wonder how much he will actually play. As we know he's primarily a winger (can play both sides) however we have Bale and Lennon as firm starters so at the most he will be a bit of a bench warmer.
Remember we also have Kranjcar, Townsend, Rose and O'Hara in these positions as well (and Bentley on loan) so will be interesting to see what happens - doesn't look good for Kranjcar though who looks to be the biggest hit.

If I'm honest I'm not too sure we really need him but 'In Harry We Trust' so we'll see what happens!

So already we have signed a defender and a midfielder, unfortunately we haven't signed what I feel we really need - which is a bloody good striker.
However this doesn't mean we aren't getting linked to them, the same two names do keep appearing though and they are Suarez and Fabiano (with a dash of Hulk, Forlan and Carroll thrown into the mix).
Its looking increasingly like Suarez will be heading to Liverpool (apparently they want €30million for him) but there is an outside chance we could go in with a bid.

Fabiano on the other hand does look the most likely, his agent today dismissed reports that we had made an offer but said:
"The money would have been received with happiness, but they have said nothing to me."
Take what you want from this but It could be a potential 'come and make an offer' statement. Only time will tell I guess!
One thing is for certain though, we really do need to get a striker in - especially with the ongoing Keano talk (apparently Birmingham was never going to happen??) and now with (sometimes)SuperPav getting heavily linked with Sunderland.

Pienaar is also the focus of this weeks Poll - where would you put him? Last weeks poll saw a 100% win for Tottenham over Stratford - not much of a surprise there!

One final point, who saw Bent moving to Villa? Bloody hell that was a quick deal! And for £18/24 million? He's good but that price is just ridiculous!
