I was on the train today when the news came through to me and I couldn't help but laugh like a madman, this only continued when I found out that we could face Barca in the semi's. The woman sat opposite me must have thought I had lost the plot.
Maybe I have though because last week I said that if I had to chose then I would probably go for Real, yes Shakhtar would have been the 'easier' game but thats not what I want. I want to see the best teams in the world playing at The Lane and I want to see us beating them! What better way to win The Champions League than to beat literally the best in Europe on the way. Sod the easy route - Spurs don't work that way!
I'm not getting carried away though, this will not be an easy couple of games. Real really are a fantastic team, they are pretty outshone at the moment by Barca but this shouldn't disguise the class at Madrid by any means.
Cassilas. Carvalho. Marcelo. Pepe. Ramos. Alonso. Ronaldo. Kaka. Ozil. Benzema. Just to name a few!
However as Ive been saying for a while, at home I am confident we can beat anyone. We are lucky once again that we play our home tie in the second leg so if we can go to Madrid and show the same grit and determination that we displayed against Milan then who knows what can happen!
I for one am very excited!
But thats not all. Saturday see's a return to the Premier League with our home clash against the spammers. Last time round they somehow beat us 1-0 witch was pretty frustrating. They have actually hit a bit of good form lately - unbeaten in their last 3, winning two of these. They have now reached the dizzy heights of 18th.
Cheap and no-one really likes it |
So what about our team news then?
Gallas is once again fit which is a plus. It looked like he may have done a hamstring earlier in the week but thankfully he's ok, would be surprised if he didn't start. Bale should also start tomorrow as well, after his brief appearances against Wolves and Milan I would expect him to retake his LM position. The really good news however is that Huddlestone has returned to full training, according to Spurs he should be back in 2 weeks. Happy days. Palacios, King, Woodgate and Kaboul are all still out.
Therefore tomorrow I would expect:
Gomes
Corluka - Dawson - Gallas - BAE
Lennon - Sandro - Modric - Bale
VdV
Defoe
Yes Ive gone back to the 4-5-1 formation, cant see VdV sitting this one out and I think Defoe will get the nod after his goals against Wolves. Hopefully that was the boost he needed and he'll be away now!
This weekend is a big one for Tottenham, not just because of the game we're playing but also because of the teams around us. The big one being Chelsea v City on Sunday. A result either way would be of benefit to the yids, I guess it really depends who you think will cock up the most between now and the end of the season. Once again though it demonstrates how important 3 points are this weekend.
Elsewhere Liverpool are away to Sunderland - tricky one for the scousers this, I'm going to predict a draw which would be good for us.
The filth are away to West Brom and united have Bolton at home. No prizes for guessing the winners of those two games.
So it could be an interesting weekend, not just the football but also for the conclusion to this years 6 nations. A good weekend of sport on the horizon, this I like!
COYS!
